Roof Edge Protection System

Selecting and using the right roof edge protection system is a must for any businesses requiring roof access.

At its core, a freestanding guardrail system is designed to protect those accessing flat roofs to carry out building, repair and maintenance work. Its job is to minimise risk and prevent falling from roof perimeters, so you can see why choosing the right system is essential.

With roof edge protection from The Metal Store, you’re not only getting a fully tried and tested system, but one that covers both permanent or temporary structures. That's suited to almost any flat roof configuration. And one that requires no mechanical fixing into the roof surface.

All the components for our roof barriers are available to buy individually or can be bought together to create a complete roof edge protection system. So, whether you need a full system or just the parts for reconfiguring or replacing an existing system, we’ll supply and deliver to anywhere in the UK.

Modular, freestanding roof edge barriers made simple

Our freestanding guardrail system is designed using minimal modular components to make connecting and installing your roof edge protection system simple.

The modular design also means that it’s suitable for almost any flat rooftop configuration. In our collection, you’ll find everything you need to build a safe and secure roofing guardrail. That includes the main support upright, intermediate support upright, 100% recycled rubber counterweights, cross rail, swept bend and D-end termination.

Uprights – main, intermediate or end support uprights

Each upright (main, intermediate or end support) comes pre-assembled using 2mm x 48.3mm steel tube, hot-dipped galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461. They also feature protective rubber isolation pads, under the foot, to shield the roof membrane from any potential friction or damage.

Cross rails

The uprights can be easily connected using the upper and lower cross rails, manufactured from 2.5m lengths of 48.3mm galvanised steel tube to create a straight run.

Counterweights

The main and end upright supports come complete with 20kg counterweights manufactured from 100% recycled PVC compound. As the system works using counterweights that also means there’s no need for any mechanical fixing to the roof surface. This approach ensures the roof membrane remains intact and prevents any damage to weatherproofing technology, which may occur with alternative systems.

90 degree swept bend & end terminations

The 90-degree swept bend fitting and different end terminations (D-end or wall termination) can also be used continue the run at 90-degrees horizontally or vertically and terminate the run of your guardrail. depending on exactly what configuration is required for your roof.

Fully compliant roof barriers that meet HSE safety requirements

It goes without saying, but safety is always a priority when it comes to roof barriers. There are clear HSE guidelines, including roof edge protection requirements, to ensure roof work is conducted safely. That’s why we’ve ensured that our freestanding roof guardrail is designed to the relevant roof edge protection regulations, including:

  • HSG-33 Health and safety in roof work
  • HSE INDG 284 “Working on roofs”
  • BS 13700 - 2021
  • EN ISO 14122 Part 3
  • EN 13374-2013 Class A
  • BS 6399: Part 2 1995 Wind Code

Our freestanding guardrail has also been tested by Satra Technology Ltd to ensure full compliance – and provide you with peace of mind when it comes to roof safety.

Flexible and customisable roof guardrails

Our range of roof edge protection products provides complete flexibility. As each product can be bought individually, it provides you with the opportunity to design and install a full roof edge protection for a new build or retrofit one for an existing building.

It also provides the opportunity to reconfigure or replace an existing guardrail to bring it up to date with new standards or as part of a maintenance programme.

Our powder coating service is also available, allowing you to select your RAL colour that’s in keeping with the existing aesthetic of the building or to match your business and brand.
