Frequently asked questions

What is the main use of perforated sheet?

Perforated sheets are used in a variety of applications. You might find them as part of architectural design, industrial filtration, noise control or simply as decorative elements. They’re most commonly used to create screens, partitions, facades and ventilation grilles.

What are the advantages of perforated metal sheet?

Perforated metal sheets are perfect for improving ventilation, structural strength and sound absorption with the right backing material. When you combine this with mild steel as the base material, you also get durability. Resistance to corrosion can also be achieved through galvanising, painting or powder coating – as with our galvanised perforated sheet.

Do mild steel perforated sheets rust?

Mild steel perforated sheets are prone to rust and corrosion when exposed to moisture, oxygen and other environmental factors. You can treat and coat steel with galvanising, painting or coating for a protective finish.

What is the difference between mesh and perforated sheet?

The main difference is their structure and manufacturing process. Perforated sheets are made by punching holes in solid metal sheets, creating various patterns. This includes different sized holes and patterns to suit different uses and applications.

Mesh is created by weaving or welding metal wires together to create a grid structure. Perforated sheets offer a more solid barrier with specific patterns, while mesh offers a more open and flexible structure.

How do you clean mild steel perforated sheets?

To clean and maintain your mild steel perforated sheets, you should aim to regularly remove dirt and debris using a brush or compressed air. If you want to clean more thoroughly, you can use mild soap and water. Always ensure your sheets are completely dry at the end to prevent rust.

Are perforated sheets environmentally friendly?

Mild steel is widely considered to be an environmentally friendly material. This is because steel lasts for a long time and can be recycled. Perforated sheets in building design also help to contribute to energy efficiency by improving ventilation and natural light penetration. This reduces the need for artificial lighting and climate control.

However, the production of mild steel involves energy-intensive processes and emissions. They can also rust or degrade if not properly maintained, potentially leading to additional environmental impact over time. Using coatings or treatments to prevent corrosion, such as galvanised steel, can help extend their lifespan and enhance their overall sustainability.
